This impoverished district of Abim has a population of approximately 98,000 people with 47 schools in the district all similar to the pictures below. The World Food Program (WFP) distributes food to these schools as this area is still recovering from 20 years of rebel insurgence from the LRA Rebel army whose infamous leader Joseph Kony is known for abducting over 30,000 children as child soldiers. Peace has now returned to this district and people are beginning to resettle back into their communities again, but we have an URGENT issue that cannot be ignored.
Many of the schools in this district are either overcrowded with little or no resources or are lacking basic classroom infrastructure. To date Operation Uganda has been able to build 7 classrooms for a school that was previously mud huts and the nearby mango tree.
With your help we can address the urgent issues in Abim and bring tangible hope and change to this region of Uganda.
