Early Childhood Wellness and Learning Centre

  • In consultation with the District Education Office and local community leaders in the District of Abim in North Eastern Uganda, it has been identified that there is a current need for an Early Childhood Learning and Wellness Centre in this district, not only offering a safe learning environment for preschool aged children, but also providing health screening, prevention and treatment, and a nutritious diet to enhance health and development. The majority of pre-school aged children are either left unattended while their parent goes to work or brought to the primary school by an older sibling. The majority of children in the target age group 3 -5 years are unsupervised, malnourished and are in a poor condition of health. Screening and education to parents and caregivers will also assist in the prevention of gastrointestinal disease throughout the region.

The centre will not only provide a foundational base for children to begin their educational journey, but it will also enable us to conduct regular health screening to prevent and treat sickness and illness such as:

    • Diarrhoea diseases which are the second leading cause of death in children under five years old in
developing countries. It is both preventable and treatable.
    • Malaria testing and treatment.
    • Early detection and treatment of lower respiratory tract infections
